The Dresden Dolls – Band Profile

Category : Band Profiles

The Dresden Dolls

The Dresden Dolls consist of Amanda Palmer (Vocals, Piano) and Brian Viglione (Drums, Guitar). They formed in 2001 in Massachusetts and describe themselves as “Brechtian punk cabaret”- although many people see them as gothic. Their gigs are well reputed for being exciting circus shows, full of acrobats and fire breathers.

Palmer and Viglione met at a Halloween party and soon threw themselves into performing together. Their self-titled debut was released in 2004 and covered various topics from boys to the 911 attacks. A year later they supported Nine Inch Nails on tour and threw themselves into touring the UK.

Yes Virginia was released in 2006, with the singles Sing, Backstabber and Shores of California. The band toured with Panic! At the disco and also performed at Leeds/Reading festival – doing covers of Black Sabbath’s War Pigs and The Kaiser Chief’s I Predict a Riot.

The band is currently on a sabbatical so the two band members can work on other projects but hope to start recording their third album soon.
