Bob Hurley founded Hurley Surfboards in the late 1970’s at the age of 23. He had previously worked the previous 5 years as a surf board shaper for various companies.
In in 1982 Hurley licensed the U.S. clothing rights to the up-and-coming Australian surf brand Billabong, and formed Billabong USA. In 1998 the U.S. licensing rights for Billabong expired so Hurley International was born.
In 2002 the company was sold to Nike for an estimated $95 Million.
