Many of you may have heard of the German record label Nuclear Blast via bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy and T?r.
Their website sells a vast range of band merchandise, as well as a lot of regular clothing and jewellery. They also sell books, films, games and gig tickets; It’s like a one-stop shop for metalheads. But the best thing about Nuclear Blast is this: they have a large variety of girl’s band T-shirts! This is a huge relief for female metal fans such as myself, as such shirts are hard to come by in the UK.
The site is easy to navigate, and has been translated from German very well so there’s no language barrier to worry about. There are buttons along the top of the page that allow you to get to the section you want quickly, as well as links to the most popular bands’ merchandise. There are also little bars next to the picture of each item, showing its availability; however, don’t be disappointed if it says ‘Soon available again’- after a very helpful chat with Customer Service (who also speak very good English), it turns out that it means the items are ordered direct from the supplier once you place an order. This meant that I FINALLY got the T?r and Dimmu Borgir shirts I’ve been wanting for years! There are also a fair few girl’s hoodies, which are also hard to find in the UK.
The regular clothes are great too; there’s a wide variety, including Viking and Gothic designs. And there’s not just t-shirts; the range includes trousers, hoodies, jackets, caps, even swim wear! There are plenty of humorous shirts too; if you know some German, you’ll have even more choice (and some of the German ones really are funny), but there’s still a big range of clothes in English.
The jewellery is also very nice, again with a huge range. There’s a lot of Gothic and Viking stuff (again), as well as studded armbands and the like. You can even extend your look to your home with the vast amount of ornaments/decorations on offer.
As for prices, I found them to be pretty fair and definitely better than what you’d pay at a merchant stand at a gig. Plus there are always offers on items- I got my Dimmu Borgir shirt at a discounted price. Though you do have to sign up to the site to order, this comes with the bonus of ‘Blast! Points’, which you earn with every order and can redeem against anything in the shop.
Personally, I’ve had a great experience shopping with Nuclear Blast. The service is excellent, and the Customer Service people really are helpful. The flat shipping rate is 10 Euros, which isn’t too bad, especially if you order a lot of stuff. Plus you get a free catalogue/magazine (though you do need to know German to get the most out of it!). I highly recommend this site to alternative types who want good clothes/merchandise at great value.
