Behind The Brand Rip Curl

Category : Reviews

Rip Curl was founded in 1969 in Australia by surfers Doug Warbrick and Brian Singer who at first exclusively manufactured surf boards. In 1970 they began to manufacture wetsuits for surfers, emphasising on the transformation of diving technology into something functional which would be suitable to be worn while surfing.

Since the 1970s, Rip Curl has become one of the leading board wear brands. Now the brand produces wetsuits, watches, surf wear, mountain wear, bags and accessories, footwear, eyewear, videos and DVDs and surfboards for both men and women. The Rip Curl logo looks like a wave with an “r” and a “c” subtly integrated in the design, fitting with the surf theme of the brand.

The brand name simply comes from the surfing term to “Rip the curl” which in surfing terms basically means to ride the large waves which curl over (as illustrated in their logo). Rip Curl is one of the leading board wear manufacturers in Australia, Europe, South America and some parts of North America and is a favourite board wear brand among many surfers across the globe.

The colours in their range, depend solely on the season, subdued tones for the winter months and much brighter, vibrant shades for the hot summer months.
