 Tattoo

A tattoo is the ultimate symbol of self expression, and now a main part of the alternative fashion scene.

If you are thinking about getting a tattoo, please carry on reading as there is more to just going into a studio picking a design, and having it inked.

The long life of your tattoo depends upon the care you give it. You will hopefully be given some after care instructions when you have it done, however the main points are listed below.

During the first few days do not re-bandage the tattoo, apply Vaseline, lanolin, alcohol, or petroleum based products. Do not rub, scratch or pick at the tattoo, and be sure clothing touching your tattoo is clean and soft.

It may bleed a bit at first but it will stop within a couple of hours. It is recommended that the tattoo be kept bandaged overnight or for at least two to five hours. If the gauze sticks to the skin, soak the area with cold water until the gauze loosens, then remove carefully.

Once the tattoo starts to peel, leave the skin to naturally peel off. The colours may fade until the healing is completed which usually takes a couple of weeks.

The major cause of a tattoo fading is exposure to sun. You must put high factor sun block on it whenever sun bathing.
