AFI – Band Profile

Category : Band Profiles

AFI

AFI are are band that are perhaps not as well known in Britain then they are in America, but they have released some awesome albums and have one of the most charismatic frontmen in the world of rock.

AFI stands for A Fire Inside and the band was formed in California in 1991. They initially started out as a punk band but adopted a darkier, rockier sound to their music over time. Their fans are collectively known as the Despair Faction.

The band took some time off so the members could go to college, but their first full-length album Answer That and Stay Fashionable was released in 1995, with second album Very Proud of Ya being released the year after.

Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes was released in 1997. Black Sails in the Sunset was released in 1999 and was seen as much more dark than its predecessors.

The Art of Drowning was released in 2000, with single The Days of the Phoenix giving the band their most popular hit to date. The album had a bit of an eighties vibe to it.

Sing the Sorrow was released in 2003 and their most recent album Decemberunderground was released at the end of 2006.  Love Like Winter and Miss Murder were the biggest singles to come from the album (the latter including backing vocals from the Despair Faction). Davey Havok said the album was “a time and a place… where the cold can huddle together in darkness and isolation”

AFI have had eight albums: Answer That and Stay Fashionable (1995), Very Proud of Ya (1996), Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes (1997), Black Sails in the Sunset (1999), The Art of Drowning (2000), Sing the Sorrow (2003) and Decemberunderground (2006)

AFI also have lots of band merchandise including hoodies, t-shirts.
