New Rock Boots – Behind The Brand

Category : Gothic Fashion, Interviews

Spanish shoe company New Rock make a range of high quality alternative fashion boots for both men and women. The New Rock Boots range is split into a Metallic collection and Malicia collection. We asked Kates Clothing a few questions to really get behind the brand.

Are New Rock Boots the ultimate alternative fashion boot?

In a word yes. For those who want something with more attitude than Doc Martins and more style than army boots New Rocks are perfect. With the variety of styles and colours that are now available New Rocks are more versatile than ever. The brand has become an irreplaceable part of the alternative scene, owning a pair is almost a right of passage for any metaller or goth.

New Rock Boots are quite expensive compared to other brands, but are they worth it?

New Rocks are durable, comfortable and 100% leather (vegi-leather is also available) and for the quality of construction and the detail on each boot the price is very reasonable. A pair will last years if cared for correctly – New Rocks are designed to withstand the scene they are part of!

Are New Rock Boots unisex?

Both men and women wear the classic New Rock boot, they have become a staple of the alternative scene for either sex, although New Rock also produce stilettos and platform shoes.

Which are your best selling boots for men and women?

For men it is the classic New Rock boot with added spikes and chains.

For women it is the ‘Killer Heel’, again a version of the classic boot but with a metal high heel.

Attitude Clothing Interview

Category : Featured, Interviews

We are very excited to bring you an interview we did with Attitude Clothing. Fuelled by a love of Metal, Punk and heavy rock music they been at the front line of the alternative clothing scene for many years.

What makes your site stand-out from alternative fashion sites?

At the heart of Attitude is a dedicated team who are passionate about the products we sell and how we sell them. We want our customers to experience excellent service so everything we do is customer focused.

Having been around for over 15 years – starting at the very beginning of online shopping – we’ve seen many other alternative fashion sites come and go. Attitude Clothing isn’t just web based, we have regular free catalogues with band and brand interviews as well as a slice of our product range; everyone who places an order with us receives a free copy in their parcel so they can catch on all the latest news – you can also catch regular updates on our blog.

The catalogue is also available free to anyone in the UK who hasn’t ordered from us before so feel free to request a copy via our website or by phone (visit the Information section on our site for details).

There are lots of reasons to shop with our site over other alternative fashion sites, such as our wide and constantly growing product range, great shipping options which include a next day delivery service (order up to 6pm for delivery the following working day in most cases) and our express shipping option worldwide. UK delivery starts from as little as £1.95. Our site has real-time stock and advice so when you order from us you know if what you want it available or not.

You sell a number of brands, which are the ones that stand out?

We love all our brands and have something for everyone! There are plenty of men’s and women’s clothing brands such as Alchemy England Apparel, Iron Fist, Macbeth, Dead Threads, NewBreed Girl amongst many, many others, plus lines from So So Happy, Jessica Louise and Too Fast which aren’t widely available in the UK.

There’s also a great range of shoes from 50s vintage and burlesque brands (Bettie Page, Penthouse, Pin-Up Couture and Bordello), to styles with a darker edge, and to add to this we have plenty of accessories (belts, bags, jewellery & make-up plus more), gifts, quirky cards and stationery. The list is huge so people really need to get over to the site and check it out. We have plenty of established brands as well as up and coming designers and handmade pieces – and if customers want something we don’t sell right now, we welcome their feedback.

Sohos Interview

Category : Interviews

If you are looking for an alternative to high-street fashion then Soho’s has a huge range of vintage style, retro clothing, rockabilly, cyber, goth, punk and emo styles. We caught up with Soho’s and they were kind enough to answer these questions:

1. What makes your site stand-out from alternative fashion sites?

We are one big happy family at Soho’s, both the shops and website are family businesses. Because of this we all take great pride in what we do and most of all how we can provide the best service for our customers. We are always available on email or the phone and have been known to take calls from abroad at 4am! Please don’t all call at 4am though!!!

The website was born out of a need to make the Soho’s brand available to people outside of the Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester, Chester & Shrewsbury areas. Visitors to these cities that found the Soho’s shops were pleading for more shops so we decided to build www.sohos.co.uk. Although we now sell alternative clothing worldwide, we still listen to our customers and ultimately we follow their lead in terms of what we sell.

2. You sell a number of brands, which are the ones that stand-out?

Hell Bunny has been one of the most popular brands that we sell for years now. They are just such a versatile brand that come up with stunning dresses and outfits every season. The Hell Bunny Spring/Summer collection this year has not disappointed, their range of 50’s dresses are simply brilliant.

Poizen Industries are also a favourite at Soho’s. The variety the brand has to offer is unbelievable, cute T-shirts, dark Gothic tops, Harajuku Street inspired dresses, industrial and punk styles, the list goes on!

3. If you have to pick one must-have item for men and women, what would they be?

That is a difficult question!! For men I would say an Iron Fist T-shirt (if you let me have 2, a hoody as well). They always look amazing and they last for years, unbeatable quality. For women it would have to be a pair of killer heels from TUK or Iron Fist – don’t make me choose!!

4. Are you excited about AW11, and will there be any surprises?

We are really excited about the coming autumn and winter season, it’s going to be the best yet. It will definitely be full of surprises, that’s what the alternative community demands and is exactly what it will get! We are particularly looking forward to the 2nd range of Spin Doctor clothing and of course Hell Bunny. For the Soho’s shops, the boss has been working tirelessly to find absolute vintage gems which will be ready for autumn. Classic vintage 50’s, 60’s and 70’s gear, handpicked for the alternative market. There may well be one or two surprises from our own Soho’s brand late on in the season but I’d have to shoot myself if I told you what it was!

Necessary Evil Interview

Category : Gothic Fashion, Interviews

Independent Gothic brand Necessary Evil is a new breed of fashion with cutting edge style, classic yet sexy for people that love it, designed by people that love it. We were really excited to interview Kate Seagroatt who was kind enough to give us some insight behind the Gothic label.

1. How did Necessary Evil come about?

The Necessary Evil label come about because I’d been designing and releasing a few clothing styles under the Kate’s Clothing label and they’d been doing really well. I wanted to take things to the next level and hit the market with a whole range of new designs. To really impact the market and get my foot in the door with the shops I felt I needed an exciting new, trademarked label. The Necessary Evil name just hit me and I became immediately convinced it was perfect.

2. Where do you get your inspiration for new designs?

My inspiration comes from all over the place, sometimes I just wake up with a picture in my head. Other times I have to sit myself in front of trashy television or music videos and just draw until the good ideas start appearing on the paper. I like looking at the really top end designer collections for things like the cut and fit and other features that make a really difference in the quality of a style.

3. Which do you think is the stand-out piece of the current collection?

The stand out piece from the latest collection is, I think, the Neith 40s top. My concept was to run with the 50s, retro trend, but take it further and give people something different. I love the classy, glamorous styles from the late 40s and I think the top captures the essence of that. It’s eye catching without being overstated and it’s also great for work wear. Plus it’s coming soon in two new prints, pink butterflies and turquoise mermaids.

4. Is there anything exciting for the Autumn?

I’m so excited about the Autumn collection. Being a Sci Fi nerd as well, I’m all over the Steampunk styling, I love it! There’s lots of new Men’s styles coming. There doesn’t seem to be many designers catering to the alternative male population, so they’re crying out for something new and I’m convinced we’re about to have just what they’ve been looking for. I’ve far from neglected the ladies though, I have my biggest ever new collection being manufactured right now and it’s packed full of exciting new things!

Kates Clothing Interview

Category : Interviews

If you love alternative clothing then Kates Clothing is an online shop you probably already know about offering the hottest brands from the darkest labels. We caught up with Kate, the boss of Kates Clothing and she was kind enough to answer these questions.

1. What makes your site stand-out from other alternative fashion sites?

I think the biggest difference with us, is out attention to customer service. The reviews you’ll find online and in our site will attest to that. We might not have the biggest range but we try for the best, with the best prices, fast dispatch and top priority customer service. I also like to think we’re a little more friendly, customers are maybe more aware of the personalities here.

2. Has gothic fashion changed over the years?

Since the first appearance of gothic subculture, each generation has brought they’re own version of the fashion which has enriched the scene. It’s also a very individual thing (which probably makes fashion the wrong word). While the tendency towards black might be very prevalent, it’s by no means a hard and fast rule and people tend to put together their own individual look. The word gothic means different things to different people. For me it’s something like a compulsion to disassociate from the mainstream masses.

3. Which clothing brands are the ones to watch?

Obviously Necessary Evil (not just because I design for it), it’s all about timeless wearable pieces and I’m so excited about where it’s going with steampunk and retro flavours being introduced along side classic styling. There’s also quite a few mens pieces coming next season, which I can barely wait for. Spin Doctor also has a growing range of exciting new designs and you can’t beat Hell Bunny for something a little more colourful. We also have so much love for the US brand Lip Service, if only they we a little more affordable over here.

4. Footwear can make or break an outfit, what would you recommend?

It’s hard to beat Iron Fist if you want a pair of shoes that’ll seriously get you noticed. I love the Zombie and the Werewolf ones. On the other hand, New Rocks are so good for going with anything and lasting for ages, plus they have some innovative new heel styles on the way next season. I almost always use Bordello shoes for photoshoots though, they’re more than a bit difficult to walk in, but they really take you to the next level (both literally and figuratively).

5. Dying hair can be an epic fail, what product would you use?

Crazy Colour provide seriously good value and some gorgeous, bright colours, loads of our customers have been using them for years, but if you want a deeper, longer lasting colour, then it has to be Manic Panic, preferably Amplified. Their reds are so rich and I’ve never been able to replicate the results with other brands. I use the Vampire Red, sometimes with some Pillar Box Red mixed in if I want to get to the brighter stage faster. It lasts a good 3 to 4 weeks for me and my roots normally bother me before the colour gets too orange. The biggest tip is you really have to bleach though. Some people get some good results without bleach for some colours, but if you want the best colour, there’s no way round it.

6. If you have to pick one must-have item what would it be?

I basically live in my Necessary Evil Freya Top (in fact I have two). It’s so comfy and goes with anything. I even wear it back to front sometimes, if I don’t fancy having the key hole on display. That said, I think I might actually cry if I couldn’t get hold of my Manic Panic Amplified Vampire Red any more.
