Necessary Evil is stylish, elegant and sexy alternative fashion brand offering cutting edge style with classic, sexy Gothic chic for real men and women. They have just released their Spring 13 Collection so we caught up with them to find out about the new range of clothing.

What were the inspirations behind the new collection?
We are always really inspired by classic Gothic looks but like to find ways of making these looks fresh and unique, easier to wear, and more versatile. Each Necessary Evil collection is a play on this and every season we find new ways to achieve these goals.
This season, being spring/summer, we were really inspired by the idea of maintaining a heavy Goth look whilst surviving glorious weather, This is why the new collection is made up of light weight items that are the essential building blocks of a classically Gothic outfit. We have created some beautiful shirts and cropped trousers that are ideal for summer fun but still feature corseted sections, interesting necklines and uncompromising Gothic style!
The new collection also has 3 light and easy to wear summer dresses that each caters for a different Gothic mood. The Shala dress is a full length and flowing number which is extremely traditional whist the Cleone mid length dress has more of a classic vintage feel and finally the Morrigan dress is short, fun, and flirty in a cute Lolita inspired way… so whatever your summer mood we have a dress that will cater for it while still making sure you look super Gothic!

Are you influenced by current trends?
This year we fell in love with the idea of having a black summer. For a few years in a row alternative fashion has been all about loud prints on shapeless garment and clashing colour which, although fun, has never really suited us full time Goth types, so we wanted to make a collection that bucked this trend and enjoyed fitted, black, lightweight garments ideal for all summer occasions.
There seemed to be a few other alternative brands having similar ideas which we think is great as people will be able to complete the look with some of the great traditional Gothic accessories that are now becoming super popular again… I think restyles new collection says it all and mirrors our traditional Gothic vibe perfectly!
Was there any pieces that didn’t make the collection?
Actually not this time! Between juggling a 6 month old baby and having some very clear ideas on what we wanted this collection to be, Kate managed to design all the pieces super efficiently and we simply didn’t have time to play around a deviate from the original set of ideas, It was all go at NE HQ!
This wont be the case for the Autumn and winter collection however! As autumn and winter is traditionally our bigger collection and this next season sees the return of Necessary Evil’s mens wear Kate is already at the drawing board collating and playing with ideas. We are going big, bold and ultra Gothic for the next collection, we can’t wait to start sneaking previews!!!

What are the stand-out pieces from the new range?
There are definitely a few pieces that have already caused a stir for us, firstly the full length Shala dress mentioned above which is very traditional and receiving a lot of interest for being so.
Secondly the Aurora Bustle skirt which is a super cute and an extremely versatile skirt/accessory ideal to be worn over hot pants, skirts or leggings to give an outfit a fuller Gothic appearance. The Aurora bustle can add a ‘dressed up’ feel to any simple outfit without adding degrees of temperature! It is open and the front and very light weight but still has a corseted back to ensure a cinched, fitted look!
Lastly my personal favorite is the Lalita cropped trousers, cute little riding trousers simple enough to be worn as part of an industrial look yet still very feminine with its corseted back and calf ties. You could take inspiration from a Gothic Lolita look when wearing these cute jodhpurs and dress them with some frilly white ankle socks or just wear them straight for a cool classically Gothic option!

Does the new collection have any surprises?
We have totally stuck to our guns this season and provided a new range of super Gothic, fitted, flattering items, the kind you would expect from Necessary Evil. As always each item features original, unique, takes on Gothic and alternative style and finds its own way to best showcase a natural figure! So nothing surprising there!
