Evanescence Band Profile

Category : Band Profiles

Evanescence

Evanescence currently consists of Amy Lee (Vocals, Piano), Terry Balsamo (Guitar) and Tim McCord (Bass).

Evanescence formed in Arkansas in 1998 when Amy Lee and former guitarist Ben Moody (who would later write music for Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson) met at a church youth camp. They released their first album Fallen in 2003. Their debut single Bring me to Life was from the Daredevil film and was a massive hit. It featured guest vocals by Paul McCoy from 12 Stones. Singles Going Under and My Immortal were also released from the album.

In 2006 the band released The Door Open. The first single off the album was Call me when you’re sober.

The band are famous for two things, neither of them very positive. Firstly they are well reputed for going through several musicians – Amy Lee is the only original member of the band. Secondly they are seen as a Christian band – something which Amy Lee never wanted to be seen as. In 2003 after an interview where Amy Lee made comments about Christianity, many Christian record stores took their album off the shelves.

Slipknot – Band Profile

Slipknot

Slipknot are a band that you either love or hate – but you can’t deny that they are one of a kind. With frantic stage shows, band member in masks and boiler suits and three drummers playing different beats – they are awesome live and have brought out tons of songs you can always mosh to!

Slipknot are from Des Moines in Iowa and are Nu-metal. They formed in 1995 and started out writing and playing songs in a basement. They were initially known as Pyg System, but decided to name themselves Slipknot, after their one of the first songs they wrote (a couple of years later they ran into trouble with a knitting magazine with the same name!)

They have had many members of the group (one of which became a Christian and decided that he couldn’t be in the band anymore) but the current membership of the group hasn’t changed since 1999: Sid Wilson, Joey Jordison, Paul Gray, Chris Fehn, Jim Root, Craig Jones, Shawn Crahan, Mick Thomson and Corey Taylor. Instead of using their names in the band, each person is known by a number ranging from 0-8 and is recognised by a specific mask that they wear.

In 1999 the band released their debut album Slipknot which was acclaimed for its intensity and brute force. Their second album Iowa was released in 2001. By then the band had built up a strong base of fans – who were known as maggots.

In 2004 the band released Vol 3: (The Subliminal Verses). Their fourth album will be released in August 2008… Other Clothing can’t wait to hear it!!

As there are many members of Slipknot, there are also many side projects. Corey Taylor and Jim Root were in a band called Stone Sour before they joined Slipknot whilst Joey Jordison was in the Murderdolls. Jordison also stood in for Lars Ulrich when Metallica played Download in 2004.

My Chemical Romance – Band Profile

Category : Band Profiles

My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance are one of the biggest bands around at the moment – loved and hated in equal measures, their songs about drug abuse, lost love and homosexuality have attracted attention worldwide. They are widely said to be emo… although they’ve gone on record as to say they hate being called that!

My Chemical Romance (or MCR as they’re more commonly known) are from New Jersey and are Gerard Way (Vocals), Mikey Way (Bass), Ray Toro (Guitar), Frank Iero (Guitar) and Bob Bryar (Drums). They formed in 2001 after the September 11th attacks in New York as they felt that the event had such a profound effect on them (Skylines and Turnstiles was written about it) Their name came from an Irvine Welsh novel.

They were quickly signed up by Eyeball Records and a year later they released their first album I Brought you my bullets, you brought me your love.

In 2004, after being signed up by Warner Brothers Records they released Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, the album that helped them hit the big time. They supported Green Day on their American Idiot tour and later headlined the famous Warped Tour with Fall Out Boy.

In 2006 they released their most recent album – The Black Parade (although at one point it was joked the name of the album would be The Rise and Fall of My Chemical Romance). This album was celebrated by a change of image, which included Gerard’s bleached blonde hair and the now famous Drummer Jackets as seen in the Welcome to the Black Parade video. The Album was voted the 4th best album of 2006 by Kerrang.

In 2007 the Band went on tour, obtaining the ultimate coup by getting Muse to support them. They also toured with Linkin Park and HIM in Projekt Revolution – in a tour where a controversial snog was shared onstage between Gerard Way and Frank Iero.
