Paul Weller - Artist Profile

June 24th, 2008 by Indiemonkey

Paul Weller

Paul Weller is one of Britain’s most well-known singer/singwriters. Initially in bands such as The Jam and The Style Council, he is now a popular solo artist and an inspiration to Mods everywhere.

Born in 1958, he formed the Jam in 1977 who had such hits such as Going Underground, Start! (which took its bassline from Taxman by The Beatles) and Town Called Malice. The band broke up in 1982 and Weller formed The Style Council in 1983 and the band lasted for six years.

After The Style Council, Paul Weller started on his succesful solo career which is still going from strength to strength. He was a huge influence on bands such as Ocean Colour Scene and Oasis during the Britpop period (he even appeared on Oasis’ Champagne Supernova on backing vocals). His most recent album 22 Dreams has just been released.

Paul Weller has released nine solo albums: Paul Weller (1992), Wild Wood (1993), Stanley Road - (1995), Heavy Soul (1997), Heliocentric (2000), Illumination (2002), Studio 150 (2004), As Is Now (2005) and 22 Dreams (2008) (Click to buy cd’s)

Mötley Crüe - Band Profile

June 15th, 2008 by Indiemonkey

Mötley Crüe

Mötley Crüe are one of the hardest rocking bands in the world! Formed in the eighties, their backstage antics have become legendary, and their lives are set to be immortalised in a film based on their best selling autobiography The Dirt.

The band consists of Vince Neil (Vocals), Mick Mars (Guitar), Nikki Sixx (Bass) and Tommy Lee (Drums). The band formed in 1981 and released debut album Too Fast for Love that year. It originally only sold 20,000 copies, but was remixed and rereleased in 1982. Albums Shout at the Devil, Theatre of Pain and Girls, Girls, Girls shortly followed, as well as antics with groupies, awesome stage stunts and the band being band from several towns.

In the mid-eighties, the band decided to sober up (especially after Nikki Sixx nearly died from a heroin overdose) and released Dr Feelgood in 1989. Decade of Decadence was released in 1991.

Vince Neil left the band in 1992 and was replaced by John Corabi. Self-titled Mötley Crüe was released in 1994 but nothing else was released until Vince Neil rejoined the band in 1997. Generation Swine was released shortly after.

Tommy Lee left the band in 1999 to pursue a solo career. Next Motley Album New Tattoo was released in 2000. The band however reunited for a new tour in 2005.

Their latest album (provisionally titled The Dirt) is set to be released this Summer. Hold on to your revolving drumkits!

Mötley Crüe have released eight albums: Too Fast for Love (1981), Shout at the Devil(1983), Theatre of Pain (1985), Girls, Girls, Girls (1987), Dr. Feelgood (1989), Mötley Crüe (1994), Generation Swine (1997) and

Muse - Band Profile

June 8th, 2008 by Indiemonkey

Muse

To me, Muse are latter day guitar heros! When I hear their songs, it makes me all goose-pimply, and they’re are absolutely kickass live.

The band consists of Matthew Bellamy, Christopher Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard. They formed under the name Rocket Baby Dolls in 1994 but changed their name soon after.

Their first album Showbiz was released in 1999 - with a lot of their songs reflecting the struggle the band had making a name for themselves in the early years.

Second album Origin of Symmetry was released in 2001, featuring lots of unusual instruments such as church organs and a Mellotron. A live cd/dvd called Hullabaloo was released in 2002.

Absolution was released in 2003 - Muse’s most controversial album so far with a lot of political imagery.

Black Holes and Revelations was released in 2006 - this album was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize but lost out to the Artic Monkeys. The album was supported by many festival appearances, and were the Sunday night headliners at the Leeds festival of that year.

In March 2008 Muse released their second live cd/dvd package, H.A.A.R.P - which stands for High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program.

A new album is slated for release in late 2008/early 2009.

The band have released four studio albums: Showbiz (1999), Origin of Symmetry (2001), Absolution (2003) and Black Holes and Revelations (2006) as well as two live cd/dvds - Hullabaloo (2002) and H.A.A.R.P (2008)
