The Cure - Band Profile

September 23rd, 2008 by Indiemonkey

The Cure

Nobody does punk and gothic rock better than The Cure. Iconic frontman Robert Smith is famed for his mad hair, eyeliner and lipstick and depressing, yet still incredibly catchy songs.

The Cure were founded in England in 1976 and were initially called The Easy Cure. Their first album Three Imaginary Boys was released in 1979, and they followed this with a tour with Siouxie and the Banshees. Second album Seventeen Seconds was released in 1980 and was seen as much darker and atmospheric than Three Imaginary Boys. Faith was released in 1981 and Pornography was released in 1982 -this became the band’s first UK Top Ten.

The Top was released in 1984, an album where Smith played all the instruments apart from the drums and saxophone. The Head on the Door was released in 1985, an album which included In Between Days and Close to Me.

In 1987 double album Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me was released, which included Just Like Heaven and Why Can’t I Be You? The dark-sounding Disintegration was released in 1989.

After dealing with a lawsuit regarding royalties owed to a former band owner, Wish was released in 1994. Wild Mood Swings was released in 1996, but this album received a lot of negative reviews. Bloodflowers was released in 2000 and self-titled album The Cure was released in 2004.

The Cure’s as-yet-untitled thirteenth album is set to be released on the 13th of September 2008 - to promote this, they are releasing singles on the 13th of the month in the run-up to September. The Only One was released on the 13th of May.

The Cure have released twelve albums: Three Imaginary Boys (1979), Seventeen Seconds (1980), Faith (1981), Pornography (1982), The Top (1984), The Head on the Door (1985), Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me (1987), Disintegration (1989), Wish (1992), Wild Mood Swings (1996)Bloodflowers (2000) and The Cure (2004)  (Click to Buy cds)
