Supergrass are an English Rock Band from Oxford who have been playing music since they were in their teens. Their biggest hot was with the chirpy teen anthem Alright in the mid-90s but they have had a lot of other hits as well and have just released their sixth album Diamond Hoo Ha.
The band consists of Gaz Coombes (vocals and guitar), Mick Quinn (Bass), Rob Coombes (Keyboards) and Danny Goffey (Drums). Gaz and Danny originally were in a band called the Jennifers who released a single in 1992 and then disbanded. The two stayed in touch though and formed a band called Theodore Supergrass with Mick Quinn in 1993. Rob Coombes, Gaz’s brother also played with the band, although he wasn’t officially credited as a band member for another ten years.
In 1994 the newly named Supergrass released Caught By the Fuzz, a single about a friend who had been arrested for possessing drugs. The track was championed by John Peel and did very well. Debut album I Should Coco was released in 1995 and included singles such as Lenny, Mansize Rooster and Alright.
After lots of touring, second album In It For The Money was released in 1997 -which included singles Richard III and Sun Hits the Sky. Third album Supergrass was released in 1999, which included hit single Pumping on Your Stereo – a video produced by Jim Henson’s creature workshop which featured the group singing along with cute puppet instruments.
The band released Life on Other Planets in 2002 – the first album to recognise Rob Coombes as a member. A compilation album was released in 2004 and fifth studio album Road To Rouen was released in 2005, which was recorded in France. Most recent album Diamond Hoo Ha was released in March 2008 – with singles being Diamond Hoo Ha and Bad Blood.
Supergrass have released six studio albums: I Should Coco (1995), In It For The Money (1997), Supergrass (1999), Life on Other Planets (2002), Road to Rouen (2005) and Diamond Hoo Ha (2008) as well as a Compilation: Supergrass is 10 (2004).
