Amy Winehouse is like marmite - you either love her or you can’t stand her. Okay, she has silly hair, rubbish tattoos and is currently in and out of the police station like a yo-yo, but you can’t deny that she has a big voice.
Amy Jade Winehouse was born in London in 1983 and went to the Sylvia Young Theatre school, (although she was expelled at fourteen) and the Brit school. She then tried her hand at writing songs and ended up with a record deal.
Her debut album Frank was released in 2003 to critical acclaim - she was nominated for the Mercury Music prize and won the Ivor Novello songwriting award.
Second album Back to Black was released in 2006 and was produced by Mark Ronson. Singles from the album included Rehab, You Know I’m No Good and Tears Dry on Their Own. She also covered Zutons track Valerie, which was released by Mark Ronson in 2007.
Winehouse has had many offer to collaberate with her - from Babyshambles to Prince to George Michael. She has kept relatively quiet on the recording front in 2008 though due to issues with drug abuse.
Amy Winehouse has had two albums: Frank (2003) and Back to Black (2006).
