Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend - Album Review
Vampire Weekend are a New York band who draw influences from not only rock and indie, bit also classical and African music. Will this eclectic musical mix be evident on their first album?
The great thing about this album is that it’s very innovative and if these songs don’t have you jumping up and down then you must be clinically dead. Particular gems include the short-but-sweet Mansard Roof, the Ska-tinged A-Punk and the simple lyrics of Bryn.
Vampire Weekend are an acquired taste - you’ll either love their franctic rhythms or you’ll not. Some of the songs work a little bit better than others (The Kids Dont Stand a Chance is the rare weak link) but this is a brave album which deserves all the acclaim you can throw at it.
